Nissan a multinational automaker headquartered in Japan. Earlier a part of the nissan Group it has since become more independent. It is undoubtedly one of the largest manufactures of cars and has a huge market for its vehicles all over the world. The company that earlier marketed its vehicles under the brand name of ‘Datsun’ has its headquarters in Nishi-ku, Yokohama. Currently ranked as the third largest Japanese car manufacturer, this company is a bold rival to top US car manufacturers. It is famous for its luxury brand Infiniti. The ‘Ward’s 10 best engines’ award has since its inception been given to the Nissan VQ engines, of V6 configuration.

It started producing a varied range of mainstream cars and trucks initially for the Japanese market and started exporting to countries around the world since the 1950’s. Some of the most popular brands of sports cars that they have produced over the ages include Datsun Fairlady 1500, 1600 and 2000 Roadsters, the Z-car. In collaboration with other Japanese manufactures it also sells a small range of Kei cars. In 2006 it introduced the Nissan Linina Geniss, a first in a range of new worldwide family of medium sized cars. It is set to launch electric cars in Europe in 2010.
